Arras

Arras is the realisation of my dream to highlight the unique textile traditions and cultures of North East India while staying true to my passion for preserving the environment. After almost a decade of working in the corporate sector, I finally took the leap in 2019 to start working on my dream. Although we formally started in October 2019, after the 6-7 months of absolute disruption that covid-19 brought to all of us, we re-evaluated and re-started Arras in November 2020. Arras was started to ensure that the clothing we wear is kind to us, the people who create them and to the environment. The principal material in our creations is Eri silk that is procured from small suppliers and handwoven by women artisans. Eri silk is the local name of a non-violent silk that can only be found in the North East Region. Unlike other types of silk such as Mulberry and Tasar where the cocoons are boiled with the silkworms still inside, Eri silk is derived from cocoons after the silkworms have emerged. This cruelty-free nature has given it the names of Peace silk or Ahimsa silk. Our three main goals are: women empowerment, sustainable supply chain and quality clothing. Arras' weavers are our backbone. We work with women artisans towards their financial independence, to make them the drivers of change in their communities. We also ensure that we use natural fibres, that they are free from harmful chemicals and handwoven and handcrafted by our skilled workers. Finally, we work to provide you, our biggest supporters, with quality and timeless clothing.
